Western Illinois University Police Department to offer free training to community members
On March 8, 2023, the Western Illinois University Police Department (WIUPD) will host a free training session for community members on how to respond in the event of an active shooter situation. The training will be held in the University Union's Heritage Room from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and is open to the public. Participants will learn about the Run, Hide, Fight protocol, which is the recommended response to an active shooter situation. They will also have the opportunity to practice the protocol in a simulated environment.
Western Illinois University receives $3 million grant to support STEM education
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded Western Illinois University (WIU) a $3 million grant to support STEM education in the region. The grant will fund a new program called the STEM Education Innovation Center, which will provide resources and support to K-12 teachers and students in STEM fields. The center will also offer professional development opportunities for teachers and develop new STEM curricula.
